Bonsai display of Informal Korean hornbeam

Welcome to our modest home

All change at the top.

At the AGM on Sunday 13th April, a new committe was elected. Steve Tolley has assumed the mantle of Chairman, to inject his particular brand of energy and enthusiasm into ABBA, and Delyse Upton has rejoined the committee to bring back her inimitable degree of order to keep us all in check and running efficiently. Sean Hayes will remain Treasurer for one more year.

2008 events

2008 is turning out to be a very interesting year for those that were prepared to make the effort. Opening the year we had a great workshop with Natsuo Kobayashi in February, and at the AGM an excellent talk from Peter Adams on Bonsai Art in Britain with an emphasis on Scots Pine. The Summer school turned out to be one of our best events yet in terms of quality of information; with Sandro and Peter both in great form. Mo Fagan has written up a full report on the weekend. This promises to become a regular fixture in the ABBA calendar, so don't miss out next time!

Upcoming attractions

Unfortunately the followup Autumn workshop with Natsuo has had to be postponed, but we will instead be offering an Autumn Symposium at Failand on coniferous species.

This will feature three of our own talented members: John Trott, Mike Humphrey and the evergreen Dan Barton demonstrating how to get the best out of Pines, Spruces and so on. We will also have a high quality display of trees, as we will be staging a display with as many as possible of the RIBB conifers as we can coerce out of hiding.

Next year in March we will be holding a spring symposium on propagation and grafting techniques.

Looking further ahead, as many of you have requested, we will be staging the ever popular Joy of Bonsai again in 2010. More news here as it becomes available.

Check out our full calendar for all the details.
